The artwork is a prayerful meditation on Psalm 23: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me.”
At the heart of the artwork, a crucifix, shaped by the cliff’s edges stands as both a silent witness to suffering and a source of love where divine mercy flows. It is set against a landscape of valleys, evoking the winding path that each of us must walk in faith. Psalm 23 reminds us that the Shepherd does not abandon us along this journey. He walks beside us, guiding us through trial into life.
With His head turned towards the crucifix, eyes gently closed, the Shepherd sees us more deeply than sight alone. “For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7) He calls each person by name, not with words but with love that knows. It is a quiet reminder of a love that gives everything and holds nothing back.
Like the sheep, drawn by the Shepherd’s presence, we are called to follow Him with trust, and to take up our own cross on this journey. This is the journey of baptism, where we die with Christ and rise with Him. It is also the journey of the Eucharist, where we are nourished and strengthened by His love. To follow the Shepherd is to walk with hope. We are invited to see not with our eyes, but with our hearts turned towards our Lord.
