The seasons of Advent and Christmas mark the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year, inviting us to prepare our hearts to receive Christ, the Word made flesh, who dwells among us. This painting reflects on the Incarnation, not only His birth in Bethlehem, but His decision to walk with us through the daily realities of hardship and temptation.

By placing the Nativity alongside the Lord’s Temptation (Matthew 4:1-11), this painting reflects Christ’s enduring presence, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year. As we struggle, face uncertainty, and discern what truly matters, we can look to the same guiding star that led the magi to Christ, reminding us of God’s way and presence. It is the light that will help us choose trust over fear, surrender over control, and love over power.
